Blog Post #3, Summary and Analysis
A summary is when I am reflecting what I have just read. I sum it up short and sweet with the information given within the text. I do not add my opinion. In contrast, an analysis is a study of what I have just read. When analyzing I would first all decide what I think about what I have read. In most cases, I would not want you to agree with me because I would be trying to create an argument. I would ask questions about what I have read. Next, I would find evidence to support what I believe. I may use information in the reading itself, or I might look for other source documents. I might go to the library, check in the encyclopedia or I could Google web articles. If I have created a good analysis, I have finally persuaded you to believe what I believe. Love the picture. I was debating with the owl picture or the one I chose. I do agree with your definitions of both summary and analysis. I like you, can summarize what I have read, in my own words of course. I find it more difficult to analyze a book, since you have to be able to prove your point in what you have just finished reading. If it is something I truly believe, it is not hard for me to persuade others to agree with me. If the reading is somewhat abstract and not clear, then the challenge is much more difficult to get others on your side.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I like the owl. Well your explain it very simply the difference between a summary and an analysis. Sometimes I can be longwinded to I applaud that you were so simple. I agree with and like the fact that you would rather people disagree with you at the start. If you are truly able to change the opinion of others it is a clear cut way to know that you have written a good analysis and argued your point well.
ReplyDeleteGood points. Thank you for the very easy to understand and well written description on this subject. Really like the owl picture.
